Sherri Peterson

Raised in a very typical southern home in Greenville, SC, Sherrie thought there was nothing too different about her until she was told at age 10 that she had been adopted as a baby. From that time she felt a need to discover a authentic sense of belonging which ultimately led her into an interest in the theatre, where she found a sense of community, an outlet for expression, and a platform where she saw that she could have influence and affect others for good. She was just 15 when she discovered this but she felt that something inside of her connected with a greater purpose and calling and she has never stopped pursuing. Though many twists and turns in her life, Sherrie has emerged as an actress, director, and producer with over 25 years in the business. She is currently a Professor of Theatre at Shorter University, the Artistic Director for The Oak Theatre, and a Teaching Artist for Kenny Leon’s True Colors Theatre Company. She is a member of Actors Equity Association (AEA) and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA), holds a Master of Fine Arts in Acting, which she obtained in her 40’s after going through her second divorce. She has done humanitarian work around the globe, which led her to other professional opportunities as well. She has performed all over the world, from Austria to Alaska, and directed productions in Moscow, Russia, Kiev, Ukraine and all over Scotland

She has founded international touring companies, two children's theatres, and professional theatre ensembles. Her original writing has been performed and produced internationally. She has worked as an independent television and film producer, directed a feature film, and has produced commercials and documentaries. She has also worked as an actress in film and television with Tyler Perry, Jim Carrey, Tony Hale, and Donald Glover to name a few. One of her favorite things is teaching and coaching other artists, in hopes of inspiring others in their calling as she continues to pursue her own.

Her students have been seen on television in Game of Thrones, Insatiable, Legacies, The Walking Dead, Sleepy Hollow, Nashville, Being Mary Jane, Star, The Haves and Have Nots, The Quad, and the movies Sully, The Founder, Trouble With The Curve, and The Hunger Games., and the list is growing.

As an actress she tells stories, as a teacher she inspires others to do the same; as a mother of two teenagers, she finds inspiration to keep going, and as a person of faith she looks to her Higher Power for the strength and power to fulfill her calling and walk in her gifts. She is grateful for every moment that she has been given to follow her bliss and pursue her dreams.
